What is “Concrete Demo”? Concrete demolition is the process cutting, breaking and removing existing flatwork. At FS Concrete we use various tools and equipment for concrete demolition. For large projects we frequently cut the concrete into large sections and remove the sections with a tractor. Some projects require the use of a tractor with a hydraulic concrete breaker attachment to break up the concrete into small pieces. For smaller jobs, or tighter areas, FS Concrete may use a hand-held jackhammer and partner saw to break up the concrete into small enough pieces to load into a wheelbarrow.
The need for concrete removal can occur for various reasons such as to access utilities below the surface or simply the existing flatwork has become unsightly or unsafe.
Work site factors like use of space and accessibility can limit the options available, but don’t worry FS Concrete is built to handle all types of concrete removal situations.

Cut and Load – This method is used when removing large sections of concrete at a time. Typically the job site is located in an open area that allows for the use of heavy equipment. The concrete to be removed is cut into large blocks, removed with a tractor and loaded onto a truck or staging area. When using the “Cut & Load” method a large area can be removed quickly and affordably.
Break-Up – This method is used when access to the job site does not allow for the movement of large blocks of concrete, but will allow the use of mechanical equipment. The parameter of the concrete to be removed is cut and the remaining concrete is broken into pieces that will allow for transport. The use of hydraulic hammers and mechanical saws are common in this method.
Interior Demo – While working on the interior of a building and heavy equipment is not an option because the emissions are not allowed; an electric saw may be the only tool for the job. At times, when removing concrete from the interior of a building it is necessary to break the material down to a size that can be carried out by hand. Fortunately, FS Concrete is outfitted with the needed manpower and tools to handle the challenges of interior concrete removal.
