Placement and Finish-Work

Whether it is a new concrete pad or the replacement of parking lot, the quality of the concrete depends on the attention to detail in preparing the site. FS Concrete offers a “Turn-key” approach to installing concrete paving, flatwork, slabs and pads.

What we do...

If a construction plan is in place, FS Concrete will work with your engineers, architects, inspectors and designers to ensure that the placement meets their design and specifications. If a plan has yet to be established or professional representation is not available FS Concrete can help guide the process.

FS Concrete works with some of best testing labs in North Texas and can provide soils testing and geotechnical reports prior to the start of construction. Soils testing is the only way to truly know what type of ground you are building on.

Once the scope is defined it is time to start the site prep. Site prep will vary based on several factors to include the quality of the existing subgrade and the use of the space. FS Concrete offers several options from grubbing to remediation and backfill. Supplying and installing the recommended sub-base for project is part of our job.

FS Concrete doesn’t cut corners when it comes to forming and reinforcing. All forms are inspected to ensure proper levels and rebar is tied to specifications. FS Concrete will meet and work with the city and municipal inspectors during the pre-pour process.

Concrete carries its strength on the inside...

But its beauty on the outside: this exterior appearance can be modified by use of various materials and techniques. When it’s time to pour you can count of FS Concrete. Our finish crew has been trained to deliver a variety of finish options. To include; smooth, polished, boomed, exposed aggregate and rock salt finishes.

The most basic type of concrete finish is a smooth surface created through the use of screeds and trowels. Once the concrete has been tooled with a screed, concrete finishers utilize trowels to smooth and fine-level the surface of the concrete.

In order to make concrete surfaces slip resistant, a broom finish can be applied. This is done after placement, leveling, and troweling of concrete. Once a smooth surface has been created, a broom is dragged across the surface of the concrete to create small ridges that provide for traction control, particularly when the concrete surface is wet. Concrete surfaces without a broom finish tend to be slippery and dangerous when liquids are present on the surface.

An exposed finish...

Once commonly found in sidewalks of old cities, is created by washing the top layer of concrete away, which exposes the edges of the natural stone aggregates that are mixed into the concrete. This provides an attractive and slip resistant finish.

A salt finish is a type of finish used mainly for high visibility or decorative areas. Salt finishes are created by applying rock salt to the top of the wet concrete and then washing it away, which leaves small pits in the finished surface.
